SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee equestrian team wrapped up the 2018-19 campaign sending one student-athlete to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s Cacchione Cup for the first time since 2015.
The Tigers competed in four weekends worth of shows over the year, and the team improved each time they saddled up in the arena.
Sewanee had three riders qualify for regionals and two for the Zone Championship Show. Aelin Hill, with a second place finish in the Cacchione Cup Zones, qualified for the National Championship Show in the Cacchione Cup, which is comprised of both the Equitation Over Fences and Equitation Over Flat.
The senior scored identical 71 scores in both the Equitation Over Fences and in the Equitation Over Flat as she finished in a tie for 15th place out of 24 riders.
She becomes the first rider for Sewanee in the Cacchione Cup Finals since Iris Harrison’s 2015 appearance.

The show was moved to the Cumberland Plateau from Murray, Ky. due to illness with the horses at Murray State.
In Saturday’s show, the Tigers finished as the High Point Team out of 11 total teams, and on Sunday, the team finished as a Reserve High Point honor.
Additionally, Sarah Buchholz, who won two events over the weekend, earned Reserve High Point rider honors each day. Aelin Hill shared the honor with the freshman on Saturday.
