Rhodes Rallies in Late Innings to Defeat Sewanee in Tourney Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team was unable to maintain a 2-0 lead in the late innings, as the Tigers fall to the Lynx of Rhodes College in the Rhodes Regional of the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Baseball Tournament.

-The Tigers strung across a run in the third inning on a Chris McNulty double to score Riley Brandvold.

-In the sixth, Brandvold struck again, this time with his bat, as he brought home Derek Hullings home on a base knock.

-Recording just two hits through five frames, Rhodes' scored two runs on two hits to even the score after six innings.

-After the Lynx's pitching and defense stranded two runners on base in the top half of the seventh, the home team's offense brought four runs home to take a 6-2 lead to secure the win.

-Jared Demkowicz, Trey Akins and Chris McNulty each recorded two hits for the Tigers, as each player in the starting lineup recorded a hit.

-Riley Brandvold, McNulty and Drew Mancuso each recorded an RBI.

-Mancuso (3-5) tossed a complete game for the Tigers, allowing five earned on 10 hits and nine strikeouts.

-Paul Giacomazzi and Nick Bosma each tallied three hits each for the Lynx, while Zac Lange drove in two runs.

-Jack Mercer recorded a no decision in the contest, tossing six innings of 10-hit, one-earned run ball.

-Nick Bosma (2-3) recorded two shutout innings to secure the win.

The Tigers are now facing elimination on Friday afternoon when they take on Centre, who lost 2-1 to Oglethorpe. The teams will square off at 2:30 p.m.
