Washington & Lee defeats Sewanee, 7-1

LEXINGTON, Va. (Sept. 16, 2016)  A hat trick by Lauren Paolano led Washington & Lee to a 7-1 win over the Sewanee field hockey team, Saturday, at W&L Turf Field.

The host Generals scored five goals in the first half and two more in the final 35 minutes. The lone Sewanee goal came from Virginia Barry, who found the back of the cage in the 43rd minute.

Along with Paolano's three goals, Maggie Waxter added two goals for W&L while Haley Tucker and Maggie Sands also scored.

Overall, the Generals led in shots 29-6. Sewanee keeper Katya Waters finished with five saves while senior Caroline Brennan added three stops.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a noon match at Ferrum, Sunday.
