Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. (Oct. 5, 2015) – A second-overtime goal by Kaci Payne lifted Randolph-Macon past the Sewanee field hockey team 2-1, Monday, at Day Field.

The loss was the second for the Tigers this fall. Sewanee is now 6-2 overall while Randolph-Macon improved to 7-3.

The Tigers got on the board first, as Virginia Barry scored her fifth goal of the season early in the first half.

Randolph-Macon would score midway through the second as Rachel Gist netted the equalizer in the 47th minute.

With the score knotted at 1-1, the match headed into overtime. Despite being outshot 6-1 in both overtime periods, the Yellow Jackets scored the game-winner on a corner in the 86th minute.

Overall, the Tigers had 27 shots to Randolph-Macon's 15. The Yellow Jackets did manage 12 corners while limiting Sewanee to four.

A big key for Randolph-Macon was the play of its keeper Kelsey Stanley. Stanley finished with 15 saves.

Barry led Sewanee's offense with eight shots while Katie Wilson added five attempts.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Virginia Wesleyan, Tuesday.
