Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2014) – Despite a great effort, the Sewanee men's soccer team fell just short in a 1-0 loss against Denison, Sunday, at Puett Field.
Sewanee fought hard throughout the match, however a late first-half goal by Evan Porter proved to be the difference for the Big Red.
Despite not scoring on Sunday, the Tigers played better.
Sewanee stayed on the attack in the first half. The Tigers fired six shots, including two on goal, and one that went off the crossbar by Christian Gonzalez.
After a long rain delay in the second half, Sewanee continued to push forward the final 19 minutes. Unfortunately, any effort to tie the match was undone by Denison's ability to take away long passes into the Tigers' offensive third.
Senior Ford Emerson led the effort with four shots while goalkeeper Conrad Bandoroff finished with three saves.
Statistically both Denison and Sewanee were fairly even. Denison led in shots by one, 8-7, and had a small advantage in corners, 9-6.
Sewanee continues its season with a 7:00 p.m. (EST) match, Thursday at LaGrange.
