Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2013) – After scoring only one goal Saturday, the Sewanee field hockey team rolled past Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Hendrix, 6-2, Sunday, at Puett Field.
The win improved the Tigers to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in SAA play.
Sewanee got on the board first, when Karen Dawson scored off an assist by Carrie Anderson.
A minute later, the Tigers added their second goal when Anderson found the back of the cage off an assist from Dawson.
As the play continued, Sewanee stayed aggressive. Three minutes later, Dawson extended the lead to 3-0 when senior Mary Kate McAlister found the Pittsburgh, Pa., native in front of the cage.
In the second half, Sewanee kept rolling. Junior Zuie Billings scored her first goal this season off a pass from Janie Spillman.
After Hendrix made the score 4-1 with a score from Lotte Kraaljenbrink, Kat Mulligan scored an unassisted goal for the Tigers.
Later in the match, Dawson fired in her third goal again from Anderson.
Overall, Sewanee hammered Hendrix in shots 49-8. Additionally, the Tigers finished with 11 penalty corners to Hendrix's four attempts.
Individually, Dawson finished with multiple career highs. Dawson tallied three goals, one assist, five shots, and four attempts on goal.
Additionally, Anderson continued her outstanding season with 10 shots, seven shots on goal, one goal, and two assists.
In total, six Tigers finished with at least one point.
Sewanee will look to win its second straight match with 10:00 a.m. (EST) contest at Earlham, Oct. 5th.
