Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2013) – Three goals each half helped the Sewanee field hockey team defeat visiting Sweet Briar, 6-0, Saturday, on a newly renovated Puett Field.
The Tigers quickly got on the board, as freshman Carrie Anderson netted her first-ever collegiate goal with only 3:16 off the clock.
Later in the half, sophomore Warren Davis added to the lead when she fired home an unassisted score at the 14:16 mark.
As the half ticked down, Kya Wence tapped in an assist from Anderson to give the Tigers a strong 3-0 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, things stayed the same for the Tigers. Behind 19 shots, including eight on-goal, Sewanee added additional scores by senior Mary Kate McAlister, Anderson, and sophomore Maggie Boozer.
Overall, Sewanee dominated the statistics. The Tigers outshot Sweet Briar by a 40-2 margin.
Additionally, Sewanee finished with 18 corners to Sweet Briar's three.
Individually, Anderson led the attack on offense. The Louisville, Ky., native finished with nine shots, four shots on-goal, two goals, and an assist.
Additionally, Davis also had a multi-point match with a goal and an assist.
Finally, senior Tilden Davis, McAlister, freshman Kat Mulligan, freshman Emma Horgan, Boozer, sophomore Margaret Knudsen, and senior Zuie Billings, all finished with more than one shot attempt.
On the opposite side of the field, freshman Gabrielle Fignar, and a strong Tiger defense, allowed only two shots the entire match.
Sewanee will quickly return to action as the Tigers take on Bridgewater (Va.) at 1:30 p.m., Sunday.
