Anderson's two first-half goals not enough as W&L rallies in the second half

LEXINGTON, Va. (Oct. 21, 2013) – Despite two first-half goals by freshman Carrie Anderson, the Sewanee field hockey team loss at Washington & Lee, 3-2, Monday.

The defeat snapped the Tigers' four-match winning streak. Additionally, Sewanee is now 7-4 overall and 3-2 away from Puett Field.

Sewanee jumped out early as Anderson scored on a counter attack off an assist from Maggie Boozer.

After W&L briefly tied the match up at 1-1 in the 18th minute, Anderson was at it again.

Off a penalty corner, senior Tilden Davis found the Tiger freshman at the top of the circle. From there, the Louisville, Ky., native fired in her 13th goal.

With that goal, Anderson has now scored more goals this season then former Sewanee standout Elise Landau had the entire 2011 season.

Unfortunately, in the final 35 minutes, the Generals scored twice, once by Mary Virginia Long and another goal by Candice Stefanic.

Overall, W&L edged out the Tigers in shots 17-10. However, Sewanee did manage seven corner attempts to the Generals' five.

After its brief two-match road trip, Sewanee returns home Saturday against Transylvania. That match is schedule to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Puett Field.
