Nashville, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2012) – Led by a number of great finishes, the Sewanee cross country teams wrapped up its second meet of this season, Saturday, at Vanderbilt.
Battling humid weather and a number of top teams, the men's squad placed 10th while the women's team finished third.
On the men's side, Sewanee was led by Hudson Robb (27:01.20), who finished 19th, and Clay Bond, who placed 32nd. (32nd). Jason Grimes (76th), Ameil Emerson (84th), and Alec Hill (85th) rounded out the top-five finishers for Sewanee.
In the women's race, freshmen Ansley McDurmon (24:38.00) finished 10th for Sewanee. The first-year Tiger was followed by Amy Lee (24:52.90) in 13th and senior Cara Martin in 20th. Willow Smith (22nd) and Zoe Dubin (37th) rounded out the top-five finishers for Sewanee.
Additionally, the Tigers finished just behind defending conference champion and rival Rhodes.
"I thought the team competed well today," said head coach Jeff Heitzenrater. "Led by underclassmen, we trained hard this week, so the race results were good given how tired we were. We look forward to seeing the team develop as we move through the season."
The Tigers return to action September 29th at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
