SEWANEE, Tenn. 3/4/12 – The Earlham Quakers turned back the Sewanee Tigers by a score of 11-0 today in the final game of a three-game weekend series at a wind-swept Montgomery Field in Sewanee.
With the loss Sewanee's record falls to 3-5 on the season.
The Tigers managed only four hits in the game off the Quaker pitchers. Sewanee's only threat came in the bottom of the second inning when they put together back-to-back two-out singles by
Blake Bays and
Blake Williams. A fly out to center field ended the inning. A first-inning single by
Jack Rogers and a leadoff single in the ninth inning by Michael Doar accounted for Sewanee's other two hits.
Starting pitcher
Lee Schurlknight (1-2) was charged with the loss on the mound. Schurlkinght worked five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.
Marshall Ussery,
Nate Barnett,
Jimmy Robbins and
Allen Thigpen all pitched for the Tigers in relief.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on Johnson University. Game time is 2:00 pm Eastern.
