AUBURNDALE, Fla. 3/17/12 - The Sewanee Tigers dropped a close 6-4 decision to New Jersey City University today in Russ-Matt Invitational baseball action.
Sophomore southpaw
Lee Schurlknight suffered the loss on the mound for the Tigers. Schurlknight worked six innings allowing four runs, none of which were earned, on five hits.
Adam Schmidt and
Austin Shea pitched in relief of Schurlknight.
Sewanee was led at the plate by
Jack Rogers and
Allen Thigpen with two hits each. Thigpen had a double and two RBI. Freshman
James Snover chipped in a triple.
The Tigers led 2-0 after two full innings, but four unearned runs in the top of the third inning gave the Gothic Knights a 4-2 lead. With two more runs in the top of the seventh inning NJCU upped the lead to 6-2. Single runs by the Tigers in the seventh and eighth inning were not enough for Sewanee as the game ended with the final 6-4 score.
The Tigers fall to 5-9 on the season and will return to action tomorrow in the Russ-Matt Invitational against Clarkson University at 10:00 am at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Fla.
