HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. 3/15/12 – The Sewanee Tigers erupted for forty six runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Rust Bearcats today in Holly Springs, Miss. The Tigers defeated the Bearcats 14-1 and 32-4 in the two games.
With the wins, the Tigers improve to 5-8 on the season.
In the first game of the day, freshman
Marshall Ussery picked up the first win of his collegiate career in the Tigers' 14-1 victory. Ussery worked three innings, allowing no runs on no hits.
Connor Liston and
Jack Rogers each had three hits to lead Sewanee.
Allen Thigpen rapped out two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs.
Blake Bays drove in three Tigers with a double.
Freshman
Charles Warren was credited with the win in Game 2. Warren allowed two runs in two innings pitched.
Blake Williams paced the offense in the 32-4 rout with four hits in five trips to the plate.
Alan Komorowski,
Ryne Sullivan and Rogers each chipped in three hits. Rogers and Michael Doar led the way with three RBI each.
The Tigers begin play in the 2012 Russ-Matt Invitational on Saturday in Auburndale, Fla. when they square off with New Jersey City University at 1:00 pm.
