Jackson, Miss. (Oct. 27, 2012) – Led by
five All-SAA finishers, the Sewanee men's and women's
cross country teams had an outstanding showing at the inaugural SAA
Cross Country Conference Championships at Choctaw Trails,
Saturday.
With the women exceeding 91 percent of the goal times, Ansely
McDurmon led the way with a fifth place finish. McDurmon's
time of 23:18.46 was followed by Cara Martin who finished sixth in
23:26.69. Amy Lee and Willow Smith were also in the top-10, with
Lee in eighth and Smith in 10th. Finally, Zoe Dubin wrapped up a
strong Championship in 22nd-place.
Overall, McDurmon, Martin, Lee, and Smith earned all-conference
honors. In fact, that total was the most any Tiger team has had
since head coach Jeff Heitzenrater arrived at Sewanee.
In the men's race, the Tigers finished sixth with 61
percent of their exceeded goal times earned. Behind Hudson
Robb's ninth-place finish, Clay Bond placed 16th.
Ameil Emerson (33rd), Jason Grimes (37th),
and Tyler Wilcox (39th) rounded out the top-five
finishers for Sewanee.
With his efforts, Robb earned all-conference honors for the
men.
“I am really proud of the performances of our team
today,” said Heitzenrater. “To have five all-conference
runners is outstanding. These kids have worked hard all season and
their races today were indicative of that work ethic. With a few
more weeks of focus and work, we should see similar results at our
regional championship meet. Congrats to our seniors for leading
these teams to great results this season.”
The Tigers compete again at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Nov.
10th in Atlanta, Ga.
