Men's - Women's
Rome, Ga. (Oct. 13, 2012) – In their final meet before Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Championships, both the Sewanee men's and women's cross country teams had solid performances at Berry College Saturday.
In the men's race, the Tigers finished fourth, just two points behind conference opponent Berry College.
Senior Clay Bond led the Tigers in fifth place, after he crossed the finish line in 26:41.78. Sophomore Hudson Robb (26:47.37) was just behind his teammate in sixth while Amiel Emerson (27th), Jason Grimes (31st), and Alec Hill (36th), rounded out the top-five for Sewanee.
On the women's side, the Tigers finished fourth despite three of their top-six performers not competing.
Junior Willow Smith (24:11.16) led the way with a 17th-place finish. That spot was just ahead of freshman teammate Ansley McDurmon (24:12.54), who finished 18th. Cara Martin (28th), Caroline Roberts (45th), and Sarah Haroldson (46th) rounded out the women's top five.
“I am very pleased with our performances today at Berry,” said head coach Jeff Heitzenrater. “Clay, Hudson, Ansley, and Willow did a great job of leading our teams to really good individual and team performances today. With a little more fine tuning, these teams are ready to compete well at our conference and regional championships.”
The Tigers next compete Oct. 27, 2012 i the SAA Championships in Jackson, Miss.
