Box Score: Sewanee at Sweet Briar
SWEET BRIAR, Va. (Oct. 16, 2011) – Playing its best offensive match of the season the Sewanee field hockey team posted a 6-1 win over Sweet Briar Sunday afternoon at Thayer Field in Sweet Briar, Va.
“Today we had a solid team effort,” said head coach
Michele Dombrowski. “We are making adjustments day-to-day and the team is responding well. Hopefully, we can keep playing at this level tomorrow.”
As played opened junior forward
Anne Booke quickly scored the first goal of the match with less then five minutes off the clock. Ten minutes later teammate
Karen Dawson pushed the Sewanee lead to 2-0 after she followed up her initial shot off the Tigers' corner.
Booke then stayed hot as play continued, after the Charlotte, N.C. native found the back of the cage again, this time off a great pass from teammate
Zuie Billings.
With Sewanee's lead at a commanding 3-0 advantage, forward
Elise Landau closed out the first half with her first goal of the match. On the play the the senior captain took a nice pass from teammate
Molly Kennedy down the left side of the offensive zone to make the score 4-0 at the break.
Sewanee would go on and add a pair of second half goals by Kennedy and freshman
Austen Zoutewelle.
Overall, the Tigers offense put up a season-high 34 shots, in addition to taking 13 penalty corners. Leading the attack for Sewanee was forward
Caroline Murphy, who had a match-leading seven attempts.
Sewanee will go for its second straight win against Washington & Lee, Monday.
