LEXINGTON, Va. – Seniors
Lynn Hancock (Paris, Ky., Foxcroft) and
Claiborne Buckingham (Richmond, Va., Collegiate) stepped up again on Sunday and scored both of Sewanee's two goals as the Tigers shut out host Washington and Lee 2-0 in Lexington. Hancock and Buckingham each scored two goals in Sewanee's 4-0 rout of Sweet Briar on Friday, also.
The first half remained scoreless in the Division III field hockey action and Buckingham and Hancock's goals in the 47th and 52nd minutes secured the Sewanee win and gave goalkeeper
Clarkie Crawford (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate) her second straight shutout and the second of her career. Crawford had eight saves on the day and faced 20 General shots. Sewanee took six shots, but made them count, with a third of them reaching the back of the net.
Jen Baldaccini's Tigers are now 8-6 on the day and will host Fontbonne next Friday for Homecoming on the Mountain. The Tigers will return to SCAC conference play as they host Centre and DePauw on November 1-2.
