18-7 ~ SCAC Tournament Finalist ~ NCAA Sixth Place ~ SCHEDULE ~ STATS
Under head coach Conchie Shackelford, the 1993 women’s tennis team recorded an 18-7 overall record and finished sixth in the nation… Sewanee captured wins over Emory, Tennessee Tech, North Alabama and Rhodes… Finishing as a runner-up at the SCAC Tournament, Sewanee captured an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, earning its fourth appearance at the national tournament… Tigers defeated Smith College (Mass.) to advance to the quarterfinals, where they knocked off Emory for the third time… Team’s sixth-place result was the second-best finish at the end of the season, and it is the third-best finish in the program’s history at the time of induction… Individually, Becky Jo Doncaster and Cameron Tyer were named ITA Doubles All-Americans as the fourth-best team in Division III… Kristin Ialacci/Linnie Wheeless were also ranked nationally in (20th)… Finishing 11th nationally in singles, Tyer was the National Senior Player of the Year… Linnie Wheeless was also ranked nationally in singles (32nd)…
