ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association conference office announced on Friday that three Sewanee Volleyball student-athletes have been named to the First Team of the All-SAA Volleyball Team, as voted by the coaches.
For the second straight season, Sewanee has been garnered with the Newcomer of the Year, as Pedersen adds this award to her First Team honor.
The Franklin, Tenn. native has posted 127 kills in 14 conference matches, good for eighth in the league. However, her attack numbers are the talk of the conference. She has committed 14 errors in 264 total attacks, recording a .428 attack percentage, good for tops in the league.
Additionally, Pedersen finished her final six straight conference matches without committing an error, while recording a .544 attack percentage (56-0-103).
Connolly will enter postseason play leading the league in assists with 888, and she is second in assists per set (9.65). The junior has contributed to 86 percent of the team's total assist numbers (1,028).
Prior to her third year with the volleyball program, the Memphis, Tenn. native had 833 assists in her first two seasons combined.
Coming off a freshman campaign where she was named SAA Newcomer of the Year and earned South Region Freshman of the Year and All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), sophomore Destiny Stewart is now a two-time All-SAA First Team selection.
The Alpharetta, Ga. native finished third overall with 3.15 kills per set and total kills with 277. Finishing with 316.5 points for fifth overall, she also collected 262 digs.
Sewanee will begin postseason play Friday with the SAA Volleyball Championship quarterfinals with Rhodes. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. CT from Mount Berry, Ga., hosted by Berry College.
