Volleyball Plays Four Sets with Millsaps, Downs Majors on the Road

JACKSON, Miss. - The Sewanee volleyball team spoiled Family Weekend festivities on the campus of Millsaps College, as the Tigers downed the Majors, 3-1, Saturday afternoon from the Hangar Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee overcame a slow start, recording just 20 kills and an attack percentage of .023 in the first two sets. Despite the numbers, the teams split the first two sets, with the Majors taking the opening set before the Tigers evened the match at a set apiece.

-The Tigers' front row came to life in the third set, winning the third set, 25-15. Trailing 7-4 in the set, the Purple and Gold went on a 21-4 run the rest of the way to secure the set. For the set, Sewanee recorded 13 kills to Millsaps' seven.

-The Majors attempted to get the match to a fifth set for the fourth straight time in the series, but they could not get it there thanks to a 25-23 Sewanee win to secure the match.

-The Tigers notched their first win against Millsaps in Jackson in the SAA-era, dating back to the 2012 season.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Destiny Stewart recorded a double-double with a 15-dig, 13-kill performance on Saturday while Lilly Reilly also earned a double-double with 11 digs and 10 kills and also added five aces.

-Peyton Parent also added 14 digs, while Sydney White and Olivia Nichols each added 10 digs.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-McKenzi Petricko totaled 14 kills and 10 digs to lead Millsaps, while Peyton Passantino added 21 digs.

Sewanee will next head to Birmingham for a contest with Birmingham-Southern Sunday afternoon.
