SALEM, Va. - The Sewanee volleyball team finished the weekend as the only team to go undefeated at the Roanoke Classic with wins on Saturday over Roanoke and Ferrum at the Maroon Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED, ROANOKE
-In a contest that started at 9 a.m. Eastern, 8 a.m. back in Sewanee, the Tigers were wide awake early with a 25-15 opening set victory.
-The Maroons, however, woke up in the second set, despite being down 4-0 early. The tournament hosts eventually got the score even at 22.
-However, the Tigers would be the first team to set point thanks to a Roanoke bad set and an Ellie Pedersen kill. In the end, it was the Maroons who came back to take the set, 27-25.
-The Tigers struggled in the third set, trailing 6-2 at the start before burning their first timeout of the set. Sewanee would respond with a run of their own to retake the lead, 10-9.
-After Roanoke retook the lead, 11-10, The Tigers went on a 9-1 run en route to a 25-21 victory to lead the match, two sets to one.
-In the fourth set, the Tigers got out to a 6-1 lead, with five of the six points coming off of Sewanee kills.
-Despite the Maroons making a 7-6 contest in favor of the Purple and Gold, the Tigers secured the match with a 25-21 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED, FERRUM
-In Sewanee's final match of the weekend, the Tigers, thanks to an 11-3 start in the first set, cruised to a 25-13 win.
-The momentum stayed in Sewanee's favor, who started on a 7-0 run and led 13-1 at one point en route to a 25-8 victory.
-Sewanee cruised to a 25-19 third set win to secure the match.
-The Tigers limited the defense to a -.076 attack percentage (13-20-92), as the offense posted a .204 attack (38-17-103).
TIME WARP TO 2013
The Tigers' 8-1 start through nine matches is the best mark for the program since 2013, and it is the second-best in program history since 1991 when the program started 11-0.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Lilly Reilly recorded a double-double on Saturday against Roanoke. The freshman had 13 kills and 12 digs. She finished the day with 19 kills and 25 digs.
-Destiny Stewart led all Sewanee attackers with 16 kills on a .289 attack percentage in the Roanoke match. Finishing with eight kills in the afternoon match, the sophomore totaled 24 kills and 20 digs.
-Sydney White also tallied 13 kills in the morning match.
ROANOKE KEY STATISTICS
-Linsey Bailey led all attackers with 19 kills, while Tori Clinvell finished with 28 digs.
FERRUM KEY STATISTICS
-Cheyenne Strickland led the Panthers with six kills, and Abigail McCallister recorded 13 digs.
The Tigers return home for a season-long six-match homestand, as they host the Owls of MUW. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Juhan Gymnasium Wednesday night.
