Sewanee's Season Comes to a Close After a Five-Set Defeat to Millsaps

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Sewanee volleyball team fell in five sets on Friday afternoon to Millsaps in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Volleyball Tournament at the Cage Center, hosted by Berry College.

The Tigers opened the contest with a 25-23 set victory, but the Majors (16-13) responded with a 25-23 second set victory to even the match at one set apiece.

Sewanee would rally again to win 25-23 in the third set, but the Tigers struggled in the last two sets, posting a -.072 attack percentage and falling in the final two sets, 25-13 and 15-8.

Olivia Nichols and Destiny Stewart each posted double-doubles in the contest. Nichols recorded 14 kills and 16 digs, while Stewart wraps up her freshman season with 12 kills and 22 digs.

Peyton Parent led the team with 27 digs.

Constance Connolly recorded 15 digs and assists each, while Claire Crow had 22 assists with 13 digs.

Erica Bennett recorded 16 kills, while Ashley Zamjahn had 29 digs to lead Millsaps.

The Tigers finish the season at 13-14. Head coach Shawna Laurendine, now in six seasons, recorded her third-highest win total since coming to Sewanee. She is now 68-89 in her career at Sewanee and 213-247 in 15 seasons as a head volleyball coach.
