Tigers Volleyball Releases 2017 Schedule

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Head coach Shawna Laurendine has announced her 2017 schedule for the Sewanee volleyball program. 

The Tigers will open the 2017 campaign attending two tournaments. On Sept. 1 and 2, they will travel to Birmingham-Southern for the McAttack Bash, where they will take on Covenant, Washington and Lee and Maryville. 

The next weekend, Sept. 8 and 9, the Purple and Gold make the trek to Salem, Va. for the Maroon Classic. The Tigers will play four opponents in the two days, including Hollins, Ferrum, Methodist and Randolph. 

Sewanee will open its home schedule with Covenant on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. before making hitting the road again to open conference play against Rhodes and Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament champion Hendrix. 

The next weekend, the Tigers will host Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, Sept. 23 for a conference matchup, beginning at 1 p.m. 

The next day, Sunday, Sept. 24, Sewanee will host Millsaps and Huntingdon in a tri-match. Sewanee will take on the SAA opponent in the Majors at 11 a.m., then Millsaps will play Huntingdon at 1 p.m. before the Tigers take the floor against the Hawks at 3 p.m.

After a midweek match at Centre on Sept. 26, the Purple and Gold will take on Berry and Oglethorpe at Juhan Gymnasium during Hall of Fame Weekend. The Tigers will take on the Vikings on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m. and the Stormy Petals at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1. 

The next weekend, Sewanee hits the road to take on Birmingham-Southern (Oct. 7) and Millsaps (Oct. 8). 

The next three matchups for the Tigers will be at the friendly confines of Juhan Gymnasium, beginning with Centre on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 14, Rhodes will be on the mountain for a noon start. The homestand wraps up with Hendrix on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m.

The conference schedule concludes on Oct. 21 and 22, when Sewanee travels to Oglethorpe and Berry. During their match with the Vikings, there will be a tri-match with Agnes Scott. 

The regular season concludes with a third matchup at Covenant College on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. (ET) / 6 p.m. (CT). and a home matchup with Berea on the next day, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m.

The 2017 SAA Conference Tournament will take place on Nov. 3-5 at site of the No. 1 seed. 

Laurendine enters her sixth season as the Head Volleyball Coach at Sewanee, posting a 56-75 overall record.
