Stewart headlines SAA awards for Sewanee

ATLANTA (Nov. 8, 2016)  Led by Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Second-Team selection Diamond Stewart, the Sewanee volleyball team earned three all-conference awards the league announced Tuesday.

Along with Stewart, senior Sara Jayne Sutton and freshman Macy Gardella were named to the All-SAA Honorable Mention Team.

Stewart, who has been an All-SAA selection each season, ranked fifth among all conference players in kills per set (2.87) while leading the league in total attacks (990).

Additionally, Stewart ranked in the top-10 in total kills (267), points per set (3.2), and points (294.5).

Sutton, who also has been named an all-conference player multiple times, ranked fifth in digs per set (4.86). From her libero position, Sutton finished seventh in total digs (452), 23rd in assists (83), and 14th in service aces (28).

Finally, Gardella was one of the top newcomers in the league. The freshman middle blocker ranked ninth in hitting percentage (.219), 25th in kills per set (1.83), 21st in blocks.
