Volleyball closes out its regular season with a split at Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Oct. 29, 2016)  The Sewanee volleyball team closed out its regular season by splitting a pair of matches at Covenant, Saturday.

The Tigers first swept Wesleyan 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-14) before falling against the Scots 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-13).

In the match against Wesleyan, Sewanee hit a season-high .455 while Diamond Stewart and Rebecca Rowan both finished with double-digit kills. Stewart added 15 kills while Rowan finished with 14. Setters Constance Connolly (14) and Mo Rooker (12) both finished with double-digit assists.

Additionally, the Tigers finished with a season-high 13 aces against the Wolves.

In the contest against Covenant, Sewanee's attack lowered to .064. Only Stewart finished with double-digit kills. Along with 14 digs, the Nashville, Tenn., native scored 13 times.

Connolly added 22 assists while Sara Jayne Sutton led the Tiger defense with 28 digs. Caroline Owens finished with 20 digs while Kristy Gray added 14 stops.

Jessica Seehorn led Covenant with 15 kills.

Sewanee will now travel to Hendrix for its SAA Tournament quarterfinal match.
