Day Wins Javelin, Tigers Have Good Showing at Mountain Laurel Twilight Invite

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee track and field teams concluded the regular season on Friday night with the Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational.

WOMEN TOP PERFORMERS
-Karagan Day claimed top honors in the javelin throw. After a 34.71-meter throw on her first attempt, she improved her throw by 0.23 meters to clear 34.94 meters, 1.67 meters better than Emory's Taylor Robinson.

-In the 100 meters, Meredith Stuber sprinted to a 13.27-second, fifth place finish. A personal best in the event, the junior now ranks 13th in the conference. In the 200 meters, she came in seventh with a personal best 27.24-second clip, ninth-best in the Southern Athletic Association. Stuber also competed in the long jump, clearing 4.93 meters for a second place finish in the event, which now stands fourth in the conference.

-Tricia Murphy also improved her mark in the 800 meters, running to the tune of 2:30.56 for fifth place.

-The team of Kelsie Schiavone, Elizabeth Shackelford, Clay McKnight and Stuber finished second in the 4x400 relay with a season-best time of 4:21.32.

-In the 4x100 relay, the quartet of Haven Watson, Shackelford, Schiavone and Stuber ran a 50.97-second mark, good for third and a season-best.

MEN TOP PERFORMERS
-Ash Midyett improved his time in the 400 meters, running a 51.06-second time, good for fourth place in the event and seventh in the SAA.

-In the 3,000 meters, Owen Legrone finished eighth in the event, running to a time of 9:24.83.

-Minju Lee cleared 6.1 meters in the long jump to claim sixth place in the event.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will next compete at the 2018 SAA Track and Field Championships, as Sewanee hosts the event on campus. The Championships begin on Friday, April 20.
