2018 PREVIEW: Track & Field

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee track and field teams are gearing up for the 2018 season this weekend as they host the Tiger Indoor Invitational inside the Fowler Center.

This will be the first of four meets hosted by the University of the South, which includes the 2018 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships on April 20-21.

On the women's side, Kelsie Schiavone led the team in the 200-meter and the 400-meter events in both the indoor (29.10 and 1:04.46) and the outdoor (27.39 and 1:01.30). The junior is scheduled to run both events this weekend.

Meredith Stuber will compete in four events on Saturday, the long jump, the 55-meter hurdles, the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She will compete in a field event during the indoor season for the first time, and she will look to improve on her career 8.11-second mark in the 55-meters and the 29.47-second time in the 200.

When the outdoor season rolls around, the junior had season-bests in the 100-meter dash (13.43 seconds) and the high jump (1.42 meters).

Haven Watson will also compete in three events: the long jump, the 55 meters and the 200 meters. The sophomore cleared 4.9 meters in the long jump to lead the team during the indoor season. In the outdoor campaign, the cleared 4.66 meters in the same event to lead the squad.

On the men's side, there will be new shoes to fill after last year's graduating class. Kalon Johnson will compete in two events: the 55 meters and the 200 meters. The sophomore will look to improve on his personal bests of 6.99 seconds in the 55 and 26.11 seconds in the 200.

Ash Midyett, coming off a 1:55.52 winning time in the 800 meters in last year's SAA Championships, will look to improve his indoor personal mark of 2:03.79 in the same event, which led the program.

Along with hosting this week's meet, the Tigers will host the Sewanee Indoor Invitational on Feb. 17 and the Mount Laurel Twilight Invitational on Apr. 13.
