INDIANAPOLIS - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced on Monday that the Sewanee women's tennis program will make its 26th appearance in the national tournament. They will take on Washington & Lee, champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, in the Second Round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships at Emory University in Atlanta.

The Tigers will take on the Generals on Saturday. Below is the schedule for the weekend. In case of inclement weather, an indoor schedule is also posted.

Joining Sewanee and W&L will be Emory, champions of the University Athletic Association, N.C. Wesleyan, champions of the USA South Athletic Conference, and Hanover, champions of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second- and third rounds played at regional sites, Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, or Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 20-22 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 8.

The championships provide for a 49-team tournament. Automatic qualification (AQ) is granted to 40 conference champions, which form "Pool A." One team will be selected from true independents and schools from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for their champions (Pool B). The remaining 8 teams are selected from those teams in conferences with automatic bids that did not win their conference's AQ and the remaining Pool B institutions (Pool C). The teams are geographically paired, whenever possible.

This is the 26th appearance for the Sewanee men's tennis team at the NCAA Tournament. Holding an 18-26 in the national postseason tournament, Sewanee has finished in the top-five twice: fourth in 1990 and third in 2007.

Sewanee and Washington & Lee have met four times previously at the NCAA Championships, with the recent meeting coming in 2017, where the Generals defeated the Tigers, 5-3. Sewanee's lone victory in the postseason series came in 2013 in the Second Round, defeating W&L, 5-4.

The seven-time Southern Athletic Association Regular Season and Tournament Champions enter the National Tournament with a 17-8 overall record.
