No. 11 Tigers Polishes Off Majors for Sixth Straight SAA Tournament Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - After a 6-0 finish as a team, a 28-0 singles record and an 18-0 doubles record in the regular season, the 11th-ranked Sewanee women's team wins the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Women's Tennis Tournament Championship for the sixth straight season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee earned the sweep in doubles play, as the program allowed just six points, including an 8-0 shutout by Haley Tucker/Sara Thompson in the third flight.

-The Tigers claimed the championship with wins in singles by Ellie Czura and Tucker with identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.

AN EVEN DOZEN
Sewanee women's tennis collects its 12th conference championship in its 45th year of existence. This is their sixth championship in six years as members of the Southern Athletic Association.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Sara Thompson (Most Valuable Player) and Haley Tucker were selected to the All-Tournament Team. The duo allowed just two points in three matches in doubles play. Thompson earned a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles play against Lisette Phillips of Oglethorpe.

UP NEXT
With the win in the tournament final, the Tigers will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This is the 25th appearance for the Tigers overall, seven in the last eight years.

The Tigers will wait until May 7 for the NCAA Selection Show for Women's Tennis. The regional round is scheduled for May 10-13.
