No. 16 Sewanee wins its fifth straight SAA Regular Season title; Tigers now 43-0 all-time in SAA play

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 14, 2017) – For the fifth straight season, the Sewanee women's tennis team won the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Regular Season Championship. The No. 16 ranked Tigers won their 43rd straight SAA match, as the purple and gold rolled over Hendrix 9-0.

Sewanee dominated the match in doubles winning all three contests by a combined 24-2 score. Both at No. 2 and No. 3, Sewanee's teams of Christina Merchant and Maura McCrary, along with Bea Benavides and Taylor Sprouse, won by 8-0 scores. At No. 1, Clementina Davila and Darby Duval rolled to an 8-2 victory over Pratheepa Ravikumar and Rebecca Sherman.

In singles, Davila won at No. 1 against Ravikumar 6-2, 6-3. A court over, Haley Tucker hammered Julia Lefler 6-0, 6-1 while at No. 3 Duval rolled to a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win.

At No. 4, Maggie Crumbliss had little trouble with Sherman in her 6-0, 6-2 win while Meredith Heitland defeated Sarah Walker 6-2, 6-1.

Finally, Mary Jane McCaghren topped Sarah Nieman 6-1, 6-1.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a match Saturday against rival Rhodes.
