No. 16 Sewanee rolls past Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 9, 2017) – The No. 16 Sewanee women's tennis team earned a pair of victories at Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps this weekend.

Sewanee improved to 14-5 overall and are now 5-0 in SAA action. The Tigers have still never lost a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match in the league's history.

Sewanee 8 --- BSC 1

After Sewanee swept all three doubles matches, Sewanee continued to roll in singles. Christina Merchant, Haley Tucker, Darby Duval, Maggie Crumbliss, and Meredith Heitland all won in singles in straight sets.

Sewanee 9 --- Millsaps 0

In the contest against the Majors, Sewanee kept rolling. Duval and Clementina Davila defeated Ford and Dabadie at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Ellie Czura and Merchant, alongside Bea Benavides and Sara Thompson, earned perfect 8-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Sewanee did not drop a set. Playing at No. 1, Czura defeated Ford 6-1, 6-2. Tucker then topped Dabadie 6-3, 6-1 while Abbie Vaughn topped Jordan Kanak 6-2, 6-1.

At No. 4, Duval blanked Sharpe 6-0, 6-0 while at No. 5 Heitland crushed Hayek 6-2, 6-0.

Finally, Thompson hammered Barbier 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

Sewanee returns to action by hosting Hendrix on Friday.
