No. 16 Sewanee blanks regional-rival Covenant, 9-0

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (March 31, 2017) – The No. 16 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team rolled past regional-rival Covenant with a 9-0 win, Friday.

The Tigers are now 10-4 overall and have not dropped a match against a non-ranked opponent this season. Additionally, Sewanee has won four straight matches over the last 11 days.

The Tigers opened with three straight doubles wins. At No. 3 Haley Tucker and Bea Benavides topped DeLuca and Spiellman, 8-3. Mary Jane McCaghren and Taylor Sprouse earned an 8-4 victory at No. 2 over Luger and Smith while at No. 1 Clementina Davila and Darby Duval rolled over Hall and Eddy, 8-2.

In singles, Sewanee did not lose a set. At No. 1, Davila crushed Ally Hall 6-1, 6-4 while at No. 2 Tucker rolled past Delva 6-3, 6-0.

Duval then won at No. 3 against Luger 6-0, 6-1 while Meredith Heitland outlasted Eddy at No. 4, 6-1, 7-6.

Finally, Abbie Vaughn earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 against Smith while Taylor Childress dominated Ragsdale at No. 6 with a pair of 6-0 set wins.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 10:00 a.m. match against Oglethorpe, Saturday.
