No. 13 Tigers stay unbeaten with another sweep against LaGrange

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2017) – The No. 13 Sewanee women's tennis team stayed unbeaten during the 2017 season with a 9-0 sweep of visiting LaGrange, Sunday.

In doubles, Sewanee did not lose a single point. Sewanee student-athletes Clementina Davila and Darby Duval (No. 1), Ellie Czura and Christina Merchant at No. 2, and Taylor Sprouse and Mary Jane McCaghren at No. 3 all won by 8-0 scores.

In singles, Davila rolled past Jenna Eppes at No. 1 in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Czura also played well individually with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Elizabeth Knott at No. 2.

Merchant and Sprouse won their singles matches at No. 3 and No. 5 by 6-0, 6-0 margins while McCaghren crushed Carli Jones at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.

Finally, Duval continued to roll as she blew away Jia Lee at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Now 4-0 this season, the nationally ranked Tigers will play in their third straight ITA Indoor Championship next weekend. Sewanee is hosting the elite field in nearby Murfreesboro, Tenn., at the Adams Tennis Complex.
