Sprouse and Vaughn lead Tigers at ITA Regionals

ATLANTA (Sept. 24, 2016)  Led by Abbie Vaughn and Taylor Sprouse, the Sewanee women's tennis team continued to have success at the ITA Atlantic South Regionals, Saturday, at Emory University.

Sprouse advanced to Sunday's finals with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gracie Smith of Covenant and a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Han Le of Methodist. Sprouse will now play Ingrid Wilcox of Oglethorpe in the championship match.

In the Gray C Draw, Vaughn advanced to her bracket's title match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Karina Rivera of Piedmont and a 6-1, 7-6 victory against Donalyse Tyrell of Methodist in the semifinals.

In other singles action, freshman Ellie Czura dropped her Main Draw Singles match to No. 1 seeded Bridget Harding of Emory 6-2, 6-2. Lower in the bracket, teammate Darby Duval first advanced to the quarterfinals after Emma Perelman withdrew. In the final eight, Duval played hard, but after long matches on Friday, she was finally was outlasted by Harding in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

Fellow Tigers, Bea Benavides and Maggie Crumbliss also lost in their individual matches, Saturday.
