MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (April 30, 2016) – The No. 12 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team rolled into its fourth straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship match, Saturday, with a 5-0 win over rival Berry.
The Tigers are now 20-5 overall and winners of 13-straight matches. The Tigers have never lost an SAA contest since the league started in 2013.
As doubles play started, Lindsey Liles and Taylor Childress earned an 8-2 win over Lauren Byrket and Heidi Seabaugh. At No. 2 Bea Benavides and Christina Merchant topped Mary Cerny and Kaleigh Carpenter, 8-4. At No. 3 Mary Jane McCaghren and Maura McCrary defeated Kelsey McCray and Emmie Cornell, 8-1.
In singles action, Sewanee wrapped up the win as Liles and Benavides both had blowout victories. At No. 1, Liles crushed Cerny 6-0, 6-1 while at No. 6 Benavides blanked Cornell 6-0, 6-0.
The Tigers were also ahead on the other four courts when the match was called.
