Women’s Lacrosse Roars Past Lions in Home Opener

SEWANEE, Tenn. - An 11-0 halftime lead would hold up for the Sewanee women's lacrosse team, as the Tigers routed the Lions of Piedmont, 17-4, Friday night at Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The 11-game homestand started off right for the Purple and Gold. Sewanee scored three goals in the first 1:23 of the contest. Mary Kate Myers netted the first goal 26 seconds into the contest.

-The Tigers led 10-0 at the 10:24 mark in the opening half.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Brooke Winfield scored four times and caused three turnovers.

-Catherine Crigler, Sarah Strand, Kelly Thomsen, Anna Comer and Grace Zechman each added two goals.

-Comer scored four points with two assists, while Zechman totaled three assists for five total points.

-Brianna Young (3-0) saved seven shots in goal.

-The Tigers, after recording 15 turnovers in the first half, settled down in the final 30 minutes with five.

PIEDMONT KEY STATISTICS
-Rowan Bumpass scored twice for the Lions.

UP NEXT
The Tigers return to the field on Tuesday afternoon for a midweek matinee against Redlands.
