A strong start leads Sewanee past Oglethorpe

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 12, 2017) – Led by a strong start, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team defeated Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Oglethorpe, 16-3, Wednesday, at Puett Field.

The Tigers are now 13-3 overall and 5-1 in SAA action. Sewanee has won four straight contests. The Tigers will play rival Rhodes for the SAA Championship on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the Domain.

In the first, Sewanee outscored the Stormy Petrels, 13-0. During that period, Brooke Winfield, Anna Comer, Molly Elkins, Catherine Crigler, Grace Zechman, Farrell Guest, Preston Cooper, Kit Sommi, Mary Kate Myers, and Phoebe Stirm all scored. Myers and Crigler also scored in the second half.

After the break, Oglethorpe found a bit of offense. Jillian Czaplinski and Julianna Altman led OU with goals the final 30 minutes.

Overall, Sewanee led in shots 24-13. The Tigers also had an advantage in draws and caused turnovers.

In goal, Brianna Young finished with four saves in limited action while senior Crawford Horan also stopped four shots.
