SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 17, 2017) – The Sewanee women's lacrosse team played well on both sides of the field Friday, as the Tigers earned a 16-9 win over Susquehanna at Puett Field.
The Tigers have won four straight games and are 8-1 this season.
After Susquehanna scored, Preston Cooper ripped in another goal for the Tigers. From there, Susquehanna rallied over the next seven minutes. After winning multiple draws, Susquehanna scored three straight times to take a 4-3 lead.
After a goal from Mary Kate Myers, Sewanee eventually took command of the contest the final 10 minutes of the first half. During that stretch, the Tigers outscored Susquehanna 6-1. The purple and gold scored goals from Cooper, Myers, Anna Comer, Catherine Crigler, and Meredith Sackett.
The Tigers continued to roll in the second half. Sewanee outscored Susquehanna 6-4 over the final 30 minutes. Sewanee had additional goals from Brooke Winfield, Cooper, Kit Sommi, Myers, and Hannah Tompkins.
Comer led the Tigers with a goal, three shots, eight groundballs, and six caused turnovers. Myers also played well with four goals, two groundballs, and one caused turnover. Finally, Sommi added a goal, six groundballs, and two caused turnovers while goalkeeper Brianna Young finished with 15 saves.
Brooke Klair led Susquehanna with a goal, eight shots, two groundballs, and nine draws.
Sewanee returns to action with a 5:00 p.m. contest against Southwestern, Friday.
