Sewanee advances to SAA Tournament semifinals with 19-2 win over Hendrix

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 19, 2014) – The Sewanee women's lacrosse team opened the 2014 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament with a convincing 19-2 quarterfinal win over Hendrix, Saturday, at Puett Field.

The Tigers improved their overall record to 11-6. Sewanee now awaits the winner of Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps. That semifinal match is scheduled to be played at Centre College in Danville, Ky., on April 25.

Sewanee opened the match quickly. The Tigers scored three goals in less than three minutes. That helped Sewanee take a commanding 11-1 lead into halftime. The Tigers would then add another eight goals to Hendrix's one in the second half.

Individually, Mallory Grimm and Katie Riddle each finished with a match-high three goals. Brita Brudvig, Emily Hylton, Ella Richardson, and Sally Anne Greenwood added two goals each.

Additionally, Payton Fields, Janie Hannon, Wittney Reed, Elise Spencer, and Chelsea Staunton all scored once.

In goal Crawford Horan finished with five saves for her 11th win. Also on defense Greenwood caused five turnovers while Hylton, Alexis Crittenden, Riddle, Reed, Richardson, and Staunton all finished with at least one caused turnover.
