Tigers hammer Millsaps, 16-5

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 5, 2014) – A huge first half helped the Sewanee women's lacrosse team to a 16-5 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win over Millsaps, Saturday, at Puett Field.

The Tigers have now won three straight matches and improved their record to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Sewanee opened with 13 first-half goals. During the opening 30 minutes Mallory Grimm, Sally Anne Greenwood, Wittney Reed, Katie Riddle, Emily Hylton, Ella Richardson, and Payton Fields all scored.

In the second half the Tigers kept rolling. Elsie Spencer, Fields, and Dori Wilson all netted goals.

Overall, Sewanee finished with an advantage in shots, draw controls, caused turnovers, and clears.

Individually, Grimm led Sewanee with three goals while Hylton, Fields, Greenwood, and Richardson all scored twice. 

On defense Greenwood finished with three caused turnovers while Janie Hannon, Hylton, Alexis Crittenden, Grimm, Riddle, Reed, Richardson, and Wilson also forced a Millsaps turnover.

In goal freshman Crawford Horran finished with 13 saves on 18 attempts.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a noon (EST) match at Transylvania, Sunday.
