SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee golf programs are gearing up for the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Championships this weekend. The teams will play the three-day, 54-hole event beginning on Friday from Greystone Golf Club in Dickson.
Both teams will tee off at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, with the women starting on the back-nine and the men on the front-nine.
TOP-20 RANKING: Ranked 19th in the country according to GolfStat, the women's program are coming off a third place finish at the Sewanee Spring Invitational at Greystone April 15-16.
WE'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE: Looking to repeat as SAA The team is averaging 322.3 strokes per round and have an adjusted scoring average of 79.92.
WINNING: The program won one tournament this past year, taking team honors at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Ala.. The team won by two strokes, 617-619 over Berry.
SUMMON SYMONDS: Leading the way in 10th ranked Meghan Symonds, who has claimed two medalist honors this season. The junior leads the team with a 76.77 stroke average in 13 rounds this season.
Recording a low stroke score of 73, the Cary, N.C. native shared medalist honors at the championships last year with a 227 to help the Tigers secure their first-ever SAA Championship and second-straight appearance at the NCAA championships.
NATALIE ON THE LINKS: Natalie Javadi has recorded one top-10 finish this season, and she has averaged 81.62 strokes per contest with a low score of 77.

FINISH AT THE TOP: The 21st-ranked Tigers have recorded five top-10 finishes, with four of those in the top-5 in the 2017-18 season. Averaging 295.9 strokes in 17 rounds, the Tigers have a 74.47 adjusted scoring average.
BOUNCE BACK: Following a sixth place finish at last season's SAA Championships, the Tigers stormed out to a first place tie with Oglethorpe at the SAA Preview on September 10. The Tigers are looking for their first team NCAA appearance in the golf championships since 1983.
OLIVER OWNING THE COURSE: Tommy Oliver leads the team with a 73.06 stroke average. Recording a season-low score of 71, the sophomore has reached that mark twice this season, once in the final round of the Tournament Town Preview on Sept. 25 and the final round of the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational on Apr. 8.
RESULTS IN THE 60's: Gray Matthews has scored 73.94 per round on the links in 2017-18, and the sophomore has scored 70 or under three times this season. His low came in the final round of the Rhodes College Fall College back in September with a 67 that helped him to a tie for 17th overall.
