Tigers in 16th after opening round of elite Golfweek Fall Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2016)  Led by Meghan Symonds, the Sewanee women's golf team is in 16th after the first round of the elite Golfweek Fall Invitational being played at the Baytowne Golf Club.

As a team, Sewanee finished Sunday with a 343 total, 29 strokes behind leader Mary-Hardin Baylor. Methodist and Wittenberg are tied for second at 316 while rival Rhodes and Texas-Tyler are both tied for fourth after their first-round 320.

Individually, Jane Hopkinson-Wood of Wittenberg leads the field after a first-round 72. In fact, Hopkinson-Wood was the only player at par or better.

Symonds, who is tied for 24th after an opening-round 81, leads Sewanee. Natalie Javadi is tied for 59th after her first-round 86 while Mary Elizabeth Benton is tied for 66th after she finished with an 87.

Finally, Sophia Morrill is tied for 78th with an 89 while Sarah Battye currently sits in a tie for 83rd after she shot a 91.
