SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team collected a home victory over Maryville, fending off the Scots, 67-65, Tuesday night from Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams played evenly for most of the opening half. Trailing 24-19 with five minutes left in the second quarter, the Tigers used a 7-0 run at the end of the period to take a 26-24 lead into the locker room.
-Tied at 36 with 5:30 left in the third quarter, Sewanee used another push to retake the lead on a 13-7 run to lead 49-43 after 30 minutes of play.
-The Tigers got the lead to 11 with a 54-43 lead with 8:36 left in regulation, but the Scots rallied to even the score at 59 in a 3:30 span thanks to a 16-5 run.
-The teams swapped the lead back-and-forth. With 1:13 left, the Scots evened the score at 65 on free throws. On the next Tigers possession, the home team drew a foul with a minute left in regulation. Ellie Treanton made one of two free throws to take a 66-65 lead.
-Sewanee added a second free throw with 9.9 left to make it 67-65. After the Scots burned their final timeout to advance the ball, Klaire Varney's pocket was picked by Katie Roth, as she ran away with the ball to run the clock out.
-There were 12 ties and 11 lead changes in the game.
-After losing the last four games to Maryville, the Tigers have won the last two meetings, The last win at home prior to Tuesday night was Feb. 6, 2008.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton led all Sewanee scorers with 17 points and five rebounds.
-Sue Kim recorded 10 points and added five dimes.
-The Tigers finished the night shooting 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field.
MARYVILLE KEY STATISTICS
-Klaire Varney scored 26 points to lead the Scots, while Elsa Eckenrod recorded 13 points and 11 boards.
Following Thanksgiving Break, the Tigers will travel to Atlanta to take on Emory. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT next Tuesday, Nov. 27.
