LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Sewanee women's basketball team burned the Flames of Welch College Thursday afternoon, 52-34, on the opening day of the LaGrange Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers sprinted out to a 5-1 lead with 7:40 left in the opening period, but the Flames scored five straight points in nearly a 30-second span to lead 6-5. That forced Sewanee to burn a timeout.
-From there, the Tigers stepped up and went on an 11-0 run that moved into the second period to lead 16-6.
-Welch made it a two-possession game with less than 6:30 to go in the period, 16-10, but the Purple and Gold finished the half on a 9-4 run to lead 25-14 at the break.
-Leading 40-25 after three quarters, the Flames made it an 11-point contest, 43-32, with four minutes to go, but the Tigers finished the game on a 6-2 run to improve to 3-1.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Kinsley Logan scored 14 points and recorded four steals.
-Sue Kim scored six, collected five boards and four steals.
-Katie Roth scored six points and rebounds each.
WELCH KEY STATISTICS
-Caitlyn Braxton scored 15 points, corralled six rebounds and blocked five shots to lead the Flames.
The Tigers will continue play in LaGrange Friday with a contest against Huntingdon.
