Sewanee Departs SAA Tournament with First Round Defeat to Rhodes

ATLANTA - The Sewanee women's basketball team's season came to a close on Friday afternoon on the campus of Oglethorpe University, as the 7-seeded Tigers fell to the 2-seeded Lynx of Rhodes College, 76-61.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Rhodes used a strong first quarter to push out to a 21-11 lead thanks to a 53.3 percent clip from the field.

-The Tigers struggled from long range for the contest, but despite shooting 29.4 percent from the floor, Sewanee used a 16-12 advantage to get the deficit a two-possession contest, 33-27, at the break.

-The Tigers were unable to get the offense going in the second half, outscored by the Lynx, 43-34 in the period.

-Sewanee was unable to find their stroke on the blacktop of OU, shooting 21-of-70 (30 percent) from the field and 8-of-39 (20.5 percent) from beyond the arc.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Bella Taylor led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-22 shooting and nine rebounds. Needing five points to set the school record with points in a season, she accomplished that with 4:02 to go in the opening quarter. Breaking her own record of 505 a year ago, Taylor finishes the season with 526.

-Currently fourth all-time in scoring, she will enter her senior campaign with 1,390 points, 387 away from the record set by Kim Valek (1984-87).

-Hannah McCormack ends her Sewanee career with 11 points and six rebounds. She ends her career with 1,061 points and shot a career 43.5 percent from the field.

-Sue Kim dropped four dimes, while adding three steals and boards each.

RHODES KEY STATISTICS
-Lindsey Whiteside led the Lynx with 18 point, eight rebounds and seven assists.

-Allie Young added 16 points and 10 boards.
