DANVILLE, Ky. - Sewanee women's basketball fell in the regular season finale to Centre, 61-56, Saturday afternoon. With the defeat, the Tigers will enter the SAA Tournament as the 7-seed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-A tightly contested game throughout, Sewanee edged the home team, 19-17, in the opening quarter.
-The Tigers tried to extend the lead in the second period, but the Colonels kept pace with the visitors with each team dropping 14 points. Sewanee took a slim 33-31 lead headed into the locker room.
-The third quarter was all Centre, despite only outscoring Sewanee 10-5 in the frame. The Colonels limited the Tigers to one made field goal in the period.
-In the final stanza, trailing 41-38, Sewanee evened the score with a Kelley Myers triple with 9:21 left.
-The teams battled back and forth for the lead, but the Tigers recorded a two-possession lead with 5:14 to go thanks to a layup by Bella Bombassi to give the Purple and Gold a 52-48 advantage.
-From there, the Colonels went on a 13-2 run in the final five minutes of the contest, with the dagger coming via an Olivia Schad three-pointer with 54 seconds to go.
-With the loss today, the Tigers finish as a 7-seed in the 2018 SAA Tournament. Sewanee will take on 2-seed Rhodes in the quarterfinals Friday.
-The Tournament will be hosted by SAA Regular Season Champion Oglethorpe in Atlanta.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Bella Taylor led Sewanee with 14 points, four rebounds and assists each and three steals.
-Hannah McCormack dropped 11 points and five boards.
-Bella Bombassi scored nine points in 17 minutes off the bench with three boards.
-Sue Kim dished out six dimes and scored six.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Kat Wilson led all scorers with 17 points, while Abigail Stewart posted 15 points and seven rebounds.
The 2018 SAA Tournament will take place on Friday against Rhodes. Hosted by Oglethorpe, the time of the contest has yet to be determined.
