Petrels Cool Off Tigers in Second Half in SAA Action

ATLANTA - The Sewanee women's basketball team were unable to hold a halftime lead at Oglethorpe Friday night, as the Tigers were defeated by the Stormy Petrels, 58-47, in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee took advantage of a cold shooting performance by Oglethorpe in the opening half, shooting 12-of-37 (32 percent) from the field, led by Hannah McCormack, who scored 14 of Sewanee's 28 first half points.

-In the second quarter, OU trailed 13-10 after a layup, but the Purple and Gold went on a 12-0 run in about a six-minute span to push the lead to 15 points, 25-10.

-The Tigers defense limited the Petrels scoring to 16 first half points on 5-of-37 shooting (13.5 percent), including missing their first 13 shots from three-point range. Coming into Friday's action, OU led the SAA in shots made from downtown.

-Oglethorpe shut down Sewanee's offense in the third stanza, limiting the visitors to just three field goals as the outscored Sewanee, 15-6.

-Trailing 34-31 heading into the final quarter, the Petrels tied the contest at 36 with 8:57 left and took the lead for the first time at the 8:23 mark, and did not look back.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Hannah McCormack led the Tigers with 17 points and added five boards.

-Bella Taylor scored 12 for Sewanee and recorded four rebounds and assists each.

-Sue Kim added nine rebounds and three dimes.

OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-Sydney Long posted 16 points for the Petrels, while Savannah LeGate recorded 22 boards, 15 on the offensive glass, with 10 points.
