Softball Drops Two to Covenant

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee softball team fell to the Scots of Covenant College in a doubleheader in its home opener Wednesday afternoon, falling 5-2 and 12-0 from Tiger Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1
-Covenant scored a run in the first and a run in the third, all unearned runs off of Kendell Goodrum.

-In the fifth, the Tigers, who had not seen a batter reach base through four innings, broke that streak with back-to-back homers by Rachel Hoffman and Peri Prestwood to cut the lead to 3-2 after five innings.

-The Scots added two runs in the sixth to seal the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2
-Covenant scored 11 times in the first inning as the team sent 17 batters to the plate.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Rachel Hoffman and Peri Prestwood each went yard for Sewanee.

-Kendell Goodrum (0-4) allowed two earned runs in seven innings.

COVENANT KEY STATISTICS
-Cope Whitaker recorded two multi-hit games with two hits each.

-Sarah Huskey (1-1) and Carsyn Stone (1-2) each recorded wins for Covenant.
