Tigers Conclude Regular Season with Panthers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sewanee softball team suffered a doubleheader defeat to the hands of Birmingham-Southern College, 12-1 and 16-5, Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Panthers started the scoring in the opening frame with an RBI double.

-In the top half of the third, the Tigers evened the score on a Rachel Hoffman double that brought home Jackie O'Reilly.

-BSC responded with 11 unanswered runs, nine coming in the bottom half of the third to seal the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-The bats started out hot for Birmingham-Southern in the series finale, scoring a run in the first before scoring 12 times in the second.

-Sewanee responded with a five-run frame in the third. After three of the first four batters reached base to start the inning, Jackie O'Reilly brought Amanda Bell and Katrina Ramos home on a double.

-Rachel Hoffman followed suit with a double of her own that scored Charlsey Shirey and O'Reilly.

-Two batters later, Taylor Wagner scorched a triple that brought Hoffman home for the fifth run.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Rachel Hoffman totaled three hits on the day, two hits in game one, with two RBI.

-Charlsey Shirey went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Jackie O'Reilly tallied two RBI.

-Jackie O'Reilly (4-18) suffered the loss in the opener, allowing seven earned in four innings, while Rowan Jordan (0-2) took the loss in the series finale, with 12 earned runs in 1.2 innings.

BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Abby Spencer went a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with an RBI and a run, and in game two, she scored twice on three walks.

-Savannah Lee tallied two hits in each contest.

-Jessica Perley (4-7) allowed one earned run on five hits in the complete game win.

-Leah White started game two for BSC and allowed five earned in three innings. Haley Crumpton (22-5) finished the contest and earned the win.

UP NEXT
With the regular season in the books, the Tigers will now turn their attention to the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Softball Tournament. The 7-seeded Tigers will rematch with the Panthers in the quarterfinal round on Friday.
