Tigers Defeated by Rhodes in Series Finale

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Sewanee softball team suffered a 9-2 defeat to the Lynx of Rhodes College on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Rhodes opened the contest with five runs in the bottom of the first.

-In the fourth, the Tigers broke the shutout and cut the deficit from 5-0 to 5-2. Caroline Sweetin brought the first run home on an RBI single to score Jackie O'Reilly.

-During Taylor Wagner's at bat, Charlsey Shirey was at first and Sweetin was on third. Sweetin scored on a Rhodes error.

-The Lynx responded in the bottom of the fifth with a single run and three runs in the sixth en route to a 9-2 victory for the home team.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Caroline Sweetin collected two of the six Sewanee hits on Sunday with an RBI and a run scored.

-Jackie O'Reilly (4-12) allowed eight earned on eight hits in six innings in the circle. At the plate, she recorded the lone extra base hit.

RHODES KEY STATISTICS
-Eight of the nine hitters in the Rhodes lineup recorded hits in the win. Kirsten Samuels stroked a double.

-Haley Rath drove in two RBI, while Peyton Clark scored twice.

-Bri Maniscalco (10-3) allowed one hit in three innings.

UP NEXT
The Purple and Gold return home for a season-long eight-game homestand, beginning with a doubleheader with Wesleyan (Ga.) on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
