Tigers Stumble in SAA Opener with No. 19 Vikings

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Sewanee softball team were defeated in its Southern Athletic Association opener by No. 19 Berry, 17-0, on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Berry opened the contest with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first.

-The Vikings added six runs in the second and eight in the fourth to secure the victory.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Jackie O'Reilly, Rachel Hoffman, Caroline Sweetin and Miranda Townsend each recorded hits for Sewanee.

-O'Reilly (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing six earned in 2.2 innings pitched.

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Elizabeth Federici recorded a three-run home run and finished 2-for-2 with four RBI.

-Makenzie Flynt (2-0) tossed four shutout innings, fanning four batters.

-Berry is ranked 19th in the preseason poll created by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)

UP NEXT
The series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader against the Vikings.
